FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is AMORE?
AMORE is an innovative transportation solution being launched in Rita Ranch, Civano and select parts of Vail, Arizona. New community-based transportation services such as transit-hailing and dynamic social carpooling are paired with the latest technology to deliver convenient, affordable transportation options and alternatives to driving alone.
What is transit-hailing?
Transit-hailing pairs the convenience and innovation of ridesharing services with the affordability and community benefit of public transit. Reservations are scheduled in advance through the AMORE Ride smartphone app (see Service Questions for more details). A driver will be assigned to pick you up and take you to your destination, and if another passenger is heading in the same direction you may get paired up for the ride.
How was the service area chosen?
These communities were chosen because they lack significant alternatives to driving alone. With limited transit or private transportation services, residents only have few options to explore when it comes to their daily commute.
Which partners are contributing to the program?
AMORE is a public-private collaboration between the Regional Transportation Authority, transportation-app developer Metropia, and ridesharing service RubyRide.
How is AMORE funded?
AMORE is one of 11 programs across the United States receiving funding through the Federal Transit Administration’s Mobility on Demand (MOD) initiative. MOD envision’s a multimodal, integrated, automated, accessible, and connected transportation system in which personalized mobility is a key feature. MOD allows for the use of on-demand information, real-time data, and predictive analysis to provide travelers with transportation choices that best serve their needs and circumstances. MOD leverages technologies that allow for a traveler-centric approach that provides better mobility options for everyone.
How do I use the service?
Trips are reserved in advance through the free AMORE Ride smartphone app, available for both Android and iPhone. Enter your origin and destination, along with your desired travel time, and we'll pair you up with the ideal driver. There are two levels of reservations and service depending on when reservations are placed--Priority Reservations and Standard Reservations. Learn more below.
What are Priority Reservations? How do they differ from Standard Reservations?
Priority Reservations are made no later than 8 pm on the day before service. In other words, if you want a ride on Tuesday, a Priority Reservation must be made no later than 8 pm Monday evening. We will schedule AMORE drivers based on the number of Priority Reservations made to make sure that drivers are available for those trips. At around 10 pm you will receive a detailed confirmation email which will include your pick-up time and the name of your driver.
Standard Reservations are for trips reserved any time after 8 pm on the night before service. Standard Reservations are served based on the availability of drivers already scheduled to serve Priority Trips. If those drivers have availability at the time of your trip, they will be able to accommodate your request; on the other hand, if all drivers are already occupied with Priority Trips at the time you'd like to travel, we will not be able to accept your reservation. Beginning around 10 pm the night before service, we'll notify you instantly if we are able to serve your Standard Trip request.
How much do AMORE trips cost?
Your first two weeks of service after downloading the app are completely FREE! After that, the program charges a modest $2.50 per trip for Priority Reservations and only $3.00 per trip for Standard Reservations.
What if I need to cancel my reservation?
Sometimes plans change! If you need to cancel your reservation, visit My Trips in the AMORE app, select your upcoming reservation, and cancel the trip. Please note, there may be a cancellation fee associated with your reservation depending on when you cancel the trip. You can find more details on cancellation fees here.
Can I use the service if I don’t have a smartphone?
Currently, services are accessible only via the AMORE Ride smartphone app on iPhone or Android.
Can I use the service if I need a wheelchair-accessible vehicle?
Yes, wheelchair-accessible vehicles are available by request. At this time, wheelchair-accessible service is only available for Priority Reservations.
Where can I travel using AMORE?
All trips must begin and end within our service area.
What if I'm looking to travel outside of the service area?
Many passengers use AMORE services to connect to the larger transit system (e.g., bus stops and park and ride lots) and increase their mobility options around town.
What are the hours of service?
Trips must begin and end between the hours of 5:45 am-8 pm weekdays, and 8 am-8 pm weekends.
What are the age requirements for AMORE passengers?
Users of the AMORE Ride app must be at least 14 years old. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult passenger. Please note that our vehicles do not have car seats for children.
What rules and guidelines should passengers abide by?
Please show proper courtesy and respect to your driver and fellow passengers when using AMORE. The following behaviors may jeopardize your ability to use AMORE both short-term and long-term. Repeated offenses (and extreme first offenses) may result in an account being suspended or terminated.
Be late! Your ride may be forced to leave you behind after 5 minutes to stay on schedule.
Smoke inside of or near AMORE vehicles.
Emit strong odors like excessive perfume or smoke.
Leave trash or other debris behind in AMORE vehicles.
Bring excessive baggage which limits available space for other passengers.
Treat other passengers or drivers inappropriately or impolitely.
